Description
Attempt at an extract Oatmeal Stout that from what I can tell succeeded. Couldn't find any Oatmeal Stout extract recipes anywhere, so had to find a way to make it happen. All kudos go to the tastybrew fella's in helping me put it together with their input. Color was lighter than style recommends so upgrade to a darker extract and/or more dark grain.

Recipe Details
Tasting Notes It was good to start with. A bit bitter from the extract for starters, and originally the hops were coming through deliciously strong. After 3 months, it's really smoothed out to be absolutely delicious. Has good body, but leaving the higher OG at 5 gallons would have given it even more. The vanilla, hops, and malt have all reached a perfect balance. ABV was actually 6%. If you've tried Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, this is right there and better I think! :-)

Procedure Steeped all the grains including flaked oats and 2-row at 160 degrees for 40 minutes. Was a bit shellshocked at the OG which was 1.080, but this was due to the maltodextrin. I ended up adding another gallon of water to bring it to six gallons and OG of 1.068. Next time won't do that to increase alcohol and body. Added the vanilla extract when I racked into the secondary.
