Description
I noticed that there weren't any Imperial Stout recipes on this site, so I thought I would submit mine. Enjoy! Tango-Uniform or TU is a (mostly military) slang term for dead equipment, "tits up" in other words.

Recipe Details
Tasting Notes Roasty, but not astringent, with noticeable alcohol warmth. Faint licorice notes from the star anise are noticeable, but not overwhelming and nicely compliment the chocolate/coffee flavors from the roasted grain. The expected raisin/plum flavors usually associated with Special B, unfortunatley, are not present or masked by the roasted flavors.

Boil Time 120 minutes
Batch Size 5.00 gallons
Yeast White Labs WLP-023 Burton Ale (75% app. attenuation)
Primary Fermentation Glass, 21 days (or until fermentation stops)
Secondary Fermentation Glass, 2 months

Procedure Mash at 154F for 90 minutes. Fly sparge slowly and collect 8 gallons of wort. Boil for 60 minutes before beginning hop additions. Add star anise and Irish moss together for the final 15 minutes of the boil. Chill and pitch either the yeast cake from a previous 5 gallon batch (seriously recommended) or a large starter. Ferment and package as per your normal ale handling procedures. If you're bottling, buy a new vial of WLP-023 and add it to the beer immediately before bottling.
