My brother was stationed at Edwards Air Force base about 5 or 6 years ago. Back then it was pretty much dead on arrival for a variety and quality craft brews at any bars we went to. It may have changed since then. Check out http://www.pubcrawler.com for any possibilities.

That's exactly where I am. Death Valley is right on.

eh, outlook not so good-

Probably pretty standard brewpub stuff. IOW, you could do worse.
You may as well drive to Santa Barbara and hit the SB brewery, which is awesome. Not the closes thing to you (bout a 2 hour drive, ugh sans traffic), but definitely the best.
LA is dicey for beer bars, and breweries are nonexistant, practically.
try this- http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3903/
or this- http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9983/
both are kinda OK. I'm spoiled tho, being from San Diego

Thanks! I can't believe how lacking the beer scene is here. I'm planning on heading to SB soon. But first...
What's the SB brewery? I found the Santa Barbara Brewing Company as well as The Brewhouse.

Is anyone familiar enough with Santa Barbara to offer some suggestions other than breweries? I know it's heresy to suggest spending time outside of breweries, but I'd actually like to see the city...

iirc the brewery is downtown. Park and walk around, especially on State Street. Very cool area. I haven't been there in years, so I'm afraid I can't be more specific.

Locally actually sort of locally, threre is BJ's. Decent beer, the Pizookie (hot cookie with ice cream on it is great, food is good too. Out in Burbank theres a Gordon Bierch someplace. Up in Ventura there is Anacapa brew house. I liked the red. They had some dark brew that was great. I also recomend the pulled pork sandwich. Mmm. Other than that the mid point of the 2 is JJ Brewski's in Camarillo. Not a brewery, but 20 brews on tap, including Stones Arrogant Bastard.
Simi Valley and Moorpark had a couple of brew pubs, but they closed.
sadness.....
Agreed this area SUCK for beer, thats why I import from San Diego (Stone/AleSmith) via BevMo. (May 27th, Simi Valley gets a BevMo). Pass by on way home from work
When not importing, I brew our own.
Currently sipping the Rob H Arrogant Bastard Clone #2 as I type. Mmmmmm, just use 1272 and not the 1056 yeast, my mistake......
Listed above are the best breweries around. The best IMHO is the Simi Marvelous Brewery located in my backyard.....

There's now a BJs in Palmdale behind the gigantor mall. Its probably a 7/10 in terms of craft brews but the 75cl bottle of Chimay Bleu cost me 13 bones. Not too bad.

The BJ's in Oxnard is a brewery for the region. They always have great specialty brews that you can't find at any othe BJ's. There is a great brewery in Santa Clarita: Wolfcreek Brewery and Restaurant. Great food and beer. Definitely check it out.

San Diego is great, but from there you have to head north until you hit San Francisco before you find greatness again. There are a few minor gems to be found in the OC and LA beer scene, but it is really disappointing compared to SD and NoCal.
