So last year I made my first IPA, and it came out friggen great. Only problem, was that it was a screwed batch. My numbers were way low out of the mashtun for some reason, so to compensate I added 1Lb of table sugar in the boil... I think that would have contributed to the dryer than expected profile..

So now that I'm preparing to make it again, I'm not sure if I should add that sugar again or not...If my numbers come out as they should based on the recipe, and I add the sugar it will be stronger than I want.. If I don't add the sugar, the flavor will probably change quite a bit I would think....

Any suggestion?......

Yeah the recipe is important to really have enough info to put everything togethere. But... I would say that simple sugars are never a bad idea when you have a beer that typically finishes dry. I use some sort of simple sugar anytime I need that beer to finish dry. So, go for it. Even if you are subbing a small amount of sugar for grain, you'll get some easy points out of it and a drier finish.

I agree the recipe is important, but also want to mention that adding sugar will dry the beer out. so if you want to bring up your numbers, if you miss them this time, I suggest getting some DME/LME and possibly adding a small portion of sugar with an equal amount of extract.
