I bought some Sierra Nevada Estate 2009, How long will that keep for? I imagine since it has a date on it that it is meant to stay good a while right?

Is that one of those "drink by" dates?

No, I think it's an edition type number. Like a wine or something.

Oh. I thought you were referring to those drink by dates that breweries are starting to use. I think Russian River does it on their Pliny the Elder for example.
I'm not familiar with SN Estate 2009 and can't help. Sorry.

Marketing ploy
What is 'estate' about hops and grain grown in other states? goofy IMO
right up there with 'cold filtered' and 'pasteurized'

Isn't SN Estate the beer they brew with their hops that they grow on their property? The 2009 is just the annual edition. If it's a hoppy beer, I'd recommend drinking sooner rather than later.

Drink it now, its a seasonal meant to be consumed that season the way I understand it.

Robert... I stand, sit, keel over corrected. You are right, the hops were grown on their 'estate'. How 'bout that. That's actually kinda cool.

I've stopped using numbers to track my APAs. Since my malt is nearly always the same I've just started with months and 2 digit yr codes.
I've had three months of APA's on tap at once 2 with very subtle changes to build them. It was interesting.

I agree with everything stated above. The ones that can keep well, and actually get better over time are the heavier Belgians like double's, triples and so on. Barleywine definitely benefits from aging. I have some Allagash bottles in my basement from 2004. They are probably amazing right about now. I need a good reason to open them though

Reason #1: I am thirsty.
