Sounds good Denny. How many diff varieties of hops do you grow? I have never tried as I kill every plant I touch.

Just Cascades and I'm damn glad that's all I've got to deal with! I harvested 27 lb. wet from one plant last year and it looks like I'll have at least that much this year. Well, I do also have a Nugget plant that I neglect because I want it to die, but the sucker just keeps on going!

I just don't like Nuggets, hop shortage or not. No point making beer if ya don't like what ya make, huh?

It's just not worth the effort. I planted them in a bad spot originally, so even if I let them grow I'd get a poor yield. And I just don't need them. My single Cascade plant yields more than I can use in a year.

Making a RyeIPA saturday. Brew #2 on the new set up. I'll be with about twenty friends, all brewing. We should put out over fifty gallons if everyone shows.
Won't do the same hops as Denny's. I have a few pounds of hops to use up......lots of Horizon, Cascades, few pounds of EKGs, Saaz and Styrian Goldings. Gonna get a gallon of slurry from the brewery tomorrow.

Denny, I read your post and laughed because mine sounds very similar. I am trying my first all grain APA with the last of my cascades I grew last year ( I have about 8 oz left). I am also kegging/bottling a Wit that I made several weeks ago.

I'll work up a pale with some 2-row and munich and like others, using up the excess homegrown hops from the freezer. I recently downloaded the promash trial so I'll play with that to come up with a recipe that sounds good given the malts I currently have in stock.

Planning on another American Hopped ESB and a light/traditional Saison this weekend.
mnstorm99, haven't used Halcyon in an ESB but it did very well in the 80/- I made so it should do alright, not quite as flavorful as MO but still a good British malt.

I'm doing my first 10 gal batch in my new larger cooler MT and Keggle. Using the Biergarten Pilsner recipe from Mayfair Court with a Czech Pilsner yeast in one carboy and going with a German Pilsner yeast in the other. Now if I just had another stir plate for both starters, I wouldn't have to alternate.

got up at 5am this morning and i'm now rocking the jason f. boil down. and let me tell you, there's nothing like the smell of unadorned base malt bubbling away over a hot flame.
it's going to be a scorcher here in portland today and the SWMBO is going to be pissed that i heated up the house by doing the boil down in the kitchen. a price i'm willing to pay.
happy independence day fellas!

Dedication Brew to my almost-late Grandmother-In-Law. Very ill....
Making this ->
60% Pils Malt
20% Rye
20% Munich
Hops - Columbus for bitter/flavor/aroma, Amarillo Dry...
Beer to be light in color, flowery, with some spice.
Thoughts?
Happy 4th Yall!

Almost the same grain bill as the IPA I'm drinking right now (I used Belgian Pale instead of Pils) and it's pretty solid. Zeus for bittering, then a ton of Cascade and Centennial spread over the last 15 minutes, one keg got Zeus + Amarillo (I think this is my favorite keg hop combo now) the other I'm drinking now got Cascade. So, I think your plan sounds pretty good, sorry about your Grandmother-In-Law.

No brewing for me, but I did do some beer related stuff.
1: Kegged 10 Gallons of smoked Helles Lager
2: Moved 10 Gallons of Westcoast Dubbel
3: Racked 10 Gallons of DC's RyeIPA
Sad to think that I am now out of room
