Subject: counter-pressure filler questions

I'm looking to send some beer to a friend that came from a local brewery in a growler. End story is that I don't want to send him the growler, just bottles.

Can I use the counter pressure filler I have for bottling from my kegs to bottle some of this without putting it into a keg first?

Basically I'm asking that if I just pour the beer into a bottle that has been purged with CO2, can I just re-insert the filler blow some more CO2 into the bottle and then cap?

I want to maintain the CO2 level as it came to me, if possible.

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I am not very familiar with this thing.

Cheers

What I usually do is lower the pressure *in* the keg and dispense directly into the bottle and then cap. Very little foaming and if it is just a few bottles not a big deal. I wouldn't recommend trying to do 5 gallons that way.

You can also get a 12" length of racking cane and a drilled rubber stopper. Slide the stopper to the correct height (bottle height) and stick one end of the cane into a cobra tap. The rising pressure in the bottle as it is filled should keep the foam under control.

So you want to pour from the growler into a bottle and hit it w/ CO2 before and after? I think it's inevitable that you'll lose some carbonation that way. Might work well enough, though.....
