Next week will be an oatmeal stout.
The week after that will be a black IPA.

British Bitter and an American Amber Ale. The Black IPA sounds interesting. Is that a regular IPA with some chocolate or patent malt in it to darken it up?

Eug - do the "Brew Moon" happy dance . . .
6 lbs. 2-row
1.5 lb. white wheat malt
1 lb. honey malt
.5 lb. aromatic
.5 lb. quick oats, pre-cooked
6 whole peppercorns (10 min. left in boil)
.5 oz orange zest (10 min. left in boil)
6 whole peppercorns (FO)
.5 oz orange zest (FO)
(I usually use crushed coriander too, but was fresh out this last time)
1 oz. Spalt pellets (2%) (FWH)
1 oz. Spalt pellets (2%) (60 min.)
WLP400 (1 cup slurry)
mashed @ 151* for 60 min, batch sparged to collect 6 gallons - still chugging away in the low 70's. I've made this about 7 times, and it's the one that gets requested the most.
Denny - yeah, more details would have been helpful. One of the guys tasted the contents of the hopshot (durp) . . . hence the unfavorable review . . . no tasting reports on the final product yet . . . but they did brew identical batches with and without, so I'm anxious for the side-by-side test.

A Hopshot is new product that Northern Brewer is considering carrying, so they sent out samples to a group of people to test. It's a syringe filled with 50 ml. of unisomerized hop extract. Using the whole 50 ml in a 1.050 beer adds 50 IBU to the beer. Can also be used for flavor or aroma.

It's not isomerized, so your boil time remain the same. Although, going from a 60 min. boil to a 90 min. boil supposedly increases the utilization of it by 10%.

They used to sell hop extract in little bottles from a particuler type of hops. You could use it
they said to bump up your IBUS if you needed or put a drop or two in your glass before pouring your beer. What happen to that stuff, I havent seen it addvertised in many years?

This past batch was my first try with honey malt - before that, it was regular honey, so I can't comment on the difference, but I'm looking forward to tasting it. I think aromatic was a 'what the hell' that I've just stuck with - it's so small, you probably wouldn't notice if it wasn't there.
I have used Sterling with this recipe with good results - I'm sure the others would be cool. And I like the rye idea . . . I always have flaked rye on hand . . . hmmmmm . . .

Drinking, yes. Brewing, no. Too hot right now in my fermentation area to brew or I would probably get another batch going. I really need to make some room in the garage for a fermentation fridge.
My dubbel is carbonated enough after almost three weeks in the bottle that I'm going to break out some of that at the BBQ I'm going to. It still needs another week or so to fully carbonate but it is close enough to share with others. The BBQ is at the home of a fellow brewer and he has lots of good stuff on tap too.

My thought is to try something of a bastard Triple with the first runnings (5 gallons) and the latter as a good old American Steam...er... Californina Common (10 Gallons). Both styles should deal well with the slightly higher temp in my fermentation closet these days.
